The latest version of Steinberg’s mastering software WaveLab 12 has been released. Packed with comprehensive updates and powerful features, this version brings a host of enhancements to project workflow, editing capabilities, and visual representation of audio files.

Steinberg WaveLab 12 ARA

A new start-up assistant and a completely overhauled project structure significantly improve clarity. The support for ARA2 (in the Pro version) allows the use of the editor directly within the Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), facilitating quick edits and editing tasks, including seamless integration with external editors.

New visual elements, such as the rainbow waveform and automatic transient markers, provide improved representations of the frequency spectrum of audio files. A Loudness view with different displays facilitates the mastering of albums with multiple tracks. Automatic zooming of peak levels without changing the volume, along with the optional visual guidance of automatic transient markers, simplifies the editing process.

Normalization in WaveLab 12 can now be applied relative to other tracks based on a title, ensuring a consistent volume, particularly during album mastering. New features like Loudness Matching in the Audio Montage enable A/B comparisons between project tracks and reference tracks. Additionally, personalized reports containing crucial information about the loudness and peak levels of audio files are now possible.

Practical improvements, such as the optimized Album Wizard, the ability to copy plugin settings with a click, and side-lining of tracks for resource conservation, contribute to increased efficiency. The new Safe Mode allows the opening of “critical” projects with disabled plugins, including a “Plugin Warmup” to conserve system resources.
